  "The monks have been deprived of foodstuffs and medicine to an extent which could even lead them to death by starvation," monastery physician Athanassios Papageorgiou told reporters.

   

  The recent death of one 88-year-old monk from a stroke could have been prevented had he had access to medical attention, Dr. Papageorgiou said.

• Impostor Monks break into Mt Athos building - smashing windows and doors - Nov 25, 2005

   

  A group of imposter Esphigmenou Monastery monks were sent in by the Patriarchate wielding sledgehammers and axes smashing windows and breaking down the door of a building of the Esphigmenou Monastery at Karyes. Three monks in the building were  injured. The patriarch sent in his henchmen to terrorize the monks of Esphigmenou.
